THAC History

OUR STORY

Founded in 1982, Town Hall Arts Center (THAC) is the vibrant hub of arts and culture in Littleton, Colorado. Inside is south metro Denver’s most intimate live theatre with 260 seats and the administrative offices for our nonprofit organization. Our mission is to enrich the cultural, social and educational life of south metro Denver through professionally produced live theatre, concerts, fine art exhibits and other events, and through educational programs for children and adults.

The landmark building we call home is a crowning jewel for historic Downtown Littleton’s vibrant Main Street. When it was built in 1920, it served as the City of Littleton’s Town Hall. Our lobby housed the city’s first fire truck; the basement where we build stage scenes was Littleton’s jail; and our second-floor auditorium is where the city council met, court was held and residents turned out for plenty of community dances. City offices dominated what is now the Stanton Art Gallery.

In the mid 1950s, Littleton built a new municipal center, and the old Town Hall stood vacant for almost three decades. In 1980, a group of determined Littleton residents decided our growing city — and all of south metro Denver — needed a performing arts center. They mounted a fundraising campaign, and, two years later, THAC staged its first season.

Today, THAC continues to anchor Littleton with what The Denver Post has called “one of the most appealing intimate theatres in the region.” THAC produces main stage shows and concerts from September through June and a year-round education program for students of all ages. The Stanton Art Gallery features local talent. Each year, THAC accounts for more than 25,000 visits to Downtown Littleton and contributes more than $500,000 directly to the area’s economy, according to the City of Littleton.

Letter from the Board of Directors

“Town Hall Premier will offer Something for Everyone” was the headline just before the theatre opened its doors for the very first time. That was true in 1983 — and it is still true today.
